Meet Akosua

What does this scholarship award mean to you?

The scholarship is a gift and opportunity that is allowing me to grow and further pursue my education as both a student and social worker. The scholarship helps me to pursue my interest in Play Therapy and will help me on my journey to becoming a Registered Play Therapist. I am honored to be a recipient of the award and am so happy that it has helped me pursue my dreams.

Why did you choose to attend the University of Mississippi?

I choose to attend the University of Mississippi because of its strong academic programs. The University had the specific program that I was interested in pursuing. After reviewing other programs and schools, I kept returning to the University and knew that it was a good fit for myself and my future goals. The faculty at the University also influenced my decision. I spoke several times with the professor in the program I applied to; being able to build relationships is important to me and played a role in my decision to choose to attend the University of Mississippi.

What do you plan to do after graduation?

After graduation, I hope to continue growing and learning as a both a social worker and Play Therapist. It is my hope that I will have obtained my clinical licensure and will be a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. With my degree from the University of Mississippi, I will be ready to take the next steps to become a Registered Play Therapist. As a Registered Play Therapist, I know I will be a better mental health professional and social worker to the clients I serve.
