Why did you choose PPL as your major and what was the appeal of the Lott program?
I have always aspired to pursue a career in law and politics one day. After attending an Ole Miss preview day and hearing from Lott Institute students, I knew this program was something I wanted to be a part of. Majoring in PPL was especially appealing to me because of the small class sizes and the unique opportunities offered to students. When I received my acceptance letter from the Lott Institute, I knew I would be spending my next four years at Ole Miss. My confidence in that decision has only grown stronger since then.
What are your career aspirations?
After I obtain my undergraduate degree from Ole Miss, I plan to attend law school. I hope to one day pursue a career as a criminal defense attorney. I’ve always had a passion for law, specifically our juvenile justice system. When I worked for the Arkansas Public Defender Commission this summer, that passion only grew stronger. I am eager to see what the future holds.
Is there a professor that has been particularly helpful to you?
My PPL 101 professor and academic advisor, Dr. Bass has been particularly helpful to me during my time at Ole Miss. I found her class to be both engaging and enjoyable. As my advisor, Dr. Bass is quick to provide me with valuable guidance and genuine interest in my future. The work she does has played an integral role in shaping my college experience.
What is a particularly meaningful way you have engaged in a community either on or off campus?
In my free time, I love to volunteer within my community. One of my favorite ways to do so is through the Ole Miss Caring Companions club. Last semester, I went to a nursing home here in Oxford and played bingo with the residents. Getting to know some of the residents was such an enjoyable experience. It felt great knowing that I was giving back to a community that has given so much to me.
