Why did you choose to attend UM?

The diversity of individuals from various parts of the world, the wealth of resources, the picturesque campus, and the inclusive community were all factors that greatly influenced my decision to join UM as an international student.

When and how did you choose your major(s)/minor(s)?

I made the decision to major in Allied Health Studies during my high school years. It has been a lifelong passion of mine to pursue a career in a healthcare profession. Additionally, during that time, the world was facing the COVID-19 pandemic, which further emphasized the importance of healthcare professionals. I wanted to contribute to the fight against the virus and work alongside other dedicated doctors and nurses, which solidified my desire to pursue my studies in this field.

What would you tell a high school student about your major?

If I were to advise a high school student interested in pursuing a major in Allied Health Studies, there are a few important things I would share with them. First and foremost, it's crucial for them to have a genuine passion for healthcare and helping others. This field requires compassion, empathy, and a strong desire to make a positive impact on people's lives. Additionally, I would highlight the importance of staying informed about current healthcare issues and advancements. The field of healthcare is constantly evolving, so it's crucial to stay up-to-date with the latest research, technology, and trends. This can be done by engaging in relevant extracurricular activities, attending healthcare conferences, or even volunteering at healthcare facilities. Furthermore, I would emphasize the significance of acquiring hands-on experience through internships, shadowing opportunities, or volunteering in healthcare settings. This practical experience not only provides valuable insights into the profession but also helps students develop essential skills and establish professional networks.

Why is your department a special place?

Because of its dedicated faculty, research opportunities, collaborative community, and commitment to community engagement. These factors contribute to an enriching and rewarding educational experience, preparing students for successful careers and making a positive difference in their chosen fields.

Can you tell me about a professor or a class you’ve taken that has had the most impact on you?

My EDHE professor, Emily Susan, played a significant role in making my freshman year at UM a welcoming and enriching experience. She went above and beyond to ensure that I felt included and provided me with valuable insights about navigating campus life. Her guidance, wisdom, and genuine kindness left a lasting impact on me, and I am grateful for the support she offered throughout my journey.

What has been one of your most memorable or enjoyable moments at UM?

One of the most memorable and enjoyable moments during my time at UM was attending the Fall Convocation where author John Green delivered an inspiring speech on bringing hope for humanity. The atmosphere was electric as students and faculty gathered to listen to his insights and experiences. It was a remarkable opportunity to engage with a renowned author and gain a deeper understanding of his perspectives. The event left a profound impact on me, reminding me of the power of storytelling and the potential for positive change in the world.

What do you hope to do after you graduate? What are your career goals/ plans for post graduation?

My ultimate career objective is to specialize in my field and pursue a profession as a practitioner nurse.
