What it's like to be a sophomore at Ole Miss?

Being a sophomore at Ole Miss is a great experience because I’ve started to feel more comfortable with college life. I know my way around campus, have a better understanding of my classes and have started to figure out what works best for me. It is also a time to get more involved, meet new people and take advantage of the opportunities Ole Miss has to offer. As a Theatre and Film major, I’ve had the chance to grow through my classes and get involved in productions. I’m still learning new things about myself and what I want after college. Overall, being a sophomore is about building on your first year, stepping outside your comfort zone and making the most of every opportunity.

Taking on new challenges and following my passions at Ole Miss

October | Fall Semester 2026

The first seven weeks of school have honestly been really solid for me. I feel like I have accomplished a lot already, and I’m really proud of the way everything has been going.

One of my biggest highlights was getting the opportunity to be an understudy in a production. The whole process went really smoothly and the weekend of the show was a ton of fun. I deeply enjoyed being part of the production and getting to learn from the experience. Even though I’m a little sad that the show is over I’m also excited because now I get to focus on some new and interesting things.

My classes are starting to move into new units and I feel like I’m smelling the chicken. I also had my first exam and I ended up acing it which gave me even more confidence going forward. I’ve been doing really well in all of my classes and I feel like the hard work I’ve been putting in is starting to pay off.

Outside of class I’ve also been making progress with my acting skills. I finally perfected a song for my audition book which is something I’ve been working toward in voice lessons. Now I’m moving into comedy in my speech class so I’m excited to see how I can grow in that area.

If I had to describe my past seven weeks in one word it would be successful. I feel like I’ve been getting stuff done!!! I can’t wait for what’s to come and I need to keep this momentum going into the latter part of this semester.
