  • Quick Intro

    Beatrisa is a third-year PhD candidate in Strategy with a focus on the intersection of corporate governance, strategic leadership and corporate sociopolitical involvement. Her research explores why and when corporations take public stances on controversial political and social issues, considering factors such as political polarization, media influence, and strategic objectives. Through her work, she aims to shed light on the evolving role of corporations within the broader societal context. Beatrisa holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Marche Polytechnic University (Italy) and a Master’s degree in Finance from the Catholic University of Milan. She is an active member of the Academy of Management and the Southern Management Association.

What made you choose the University of Mississippi's doctoral program?

People. I was lucky enough to spend a semester at Ole Miss as a visiting student during my master’s degree and met some wonderful people. Having a supportive and welcoming community is key to creating an ideal environment for such a demanding academic journey as a Ph.D.

Is there a professor(s) who has been a mentor to you?

 Dr. Hyun-Soo Woo and Dr. Kristin Cullen-Lester.

What has been one of your most memorable moments at UM?

 Surviving the first semester.

Do you have any advice for people considering the Ph.D. program?

Buy a good book on academic writing and read it early and carefully. My current favorite is Tim Pollock‘s “How to use storytelling in your academic writing”.

What are your plans after completing the program?

I would like to continue my journey in academia doing research, teaching, and connecting with local companies and communities.

What are you binge-watching/reading/listening to?

Watching: the Good Place. Reading: the Wall Street Journal. Listening: Reggaeton

What are your favorite hobbies?

Rock climbing, running, and piano.

What are some dream travel destinations?

Patagonia, Japan, South Africa, and India.

What’s your favorite thing to do in Oxford, MS?

Tailgating during football season.
