Why did you choose PPL as your major and what was the appeal of the Lott program?

When I first heard of the Trent Lott Leadership Institute I was immediately sold. PPL was everything that I was looking for in a major, it has the uses of political science but gives you the steps and leadership needed in order to create policies the govern the world we live in. In addition, the close knit environment of students made being apart of the Lott Institute like being in a family.

What are your career aspirations?

Education policy is one of my favorite topics of study, which is why I will start my career in teaching. My goal is to learn the functions and facets of our education system by being apart of it. I plan to teach for quite a few years, move into an administrative position, and then later on find a job writing and deciding educational policy.

Is there a professor that has been particularly helpful to you?

Dr. Bass has been one of the greatest resources here at the Lott Institute. Dr. Bass is always kind and helpful when having questions on assignments or policy areas, but also with academic advising she is so helpful and generous with her time to get us where we need to be.

What is a particularly meaningful way you have engaged in a community either on or off campus?

Currently back home in Central Illinois, I am fighting and advocating for a new high school to be built in my community. My current high school is over 100 years old. It has no air conditioning, cracks in the walls, cracks in the ceilings, cracks in the floors, bathrooms are constantly broken, and so much more. In order for my great school district to continue being competitive and giving great opportunities to future students, a new high school must be built.
