  • About

Hi, I am Candice! Teaching has become my passion especially after being in this program. I have loved learning and interacting with students in my field placements. I want to impact students' lives not only academically but emotionally as well!

Meet Candice

What does this scholarship award mean to you?

This scholarship means so much to me! I am so grateful to even be considered as a recipient of the Lamar Scholarship. I am excited to be able to continue my education in the program with the help of the scholarship! I am looking forward to where this year will take me as I use the scholarship!

Why did you choose to attend the University of Mississippi?

I chose to attend the University of Mississippi because of how much is offered in the School of Education. Ole Miss is the best place for me to become a great educator. I have learned so much about being a teacher, but I have also met some great people and made great connections with them!

Tell us about a favorite memory, professor, and/or academic course during your time at the School of Education:

One of my favorite professors is Dr. Rodney Hurt. Dr. Hurt is not shy to call you out on anything. One night I was really tired from working that day. Dr. Hurt could tell and told me to “drink a Red Bull for the next class.” I love the personal connection he made with each student.

What inspired you to pursue a degree at the School of Education?

My mom was one of the main reasons I decided to major in Elementary Education. My mom has taught 7th grade for 23 years at East Rankin Academy. The way she connects and impacts her students really inspired me to do the same thing. A little encouragement from family and friends helped as well!

Tell us about your community involvements and/or hobbies:

I am from Scott County. I am currently a cheer coach and assistant at East Rankin Academy. Cheer is one of my passions. I was on the cheer team at East Central Community College before attending Ole Miss. Cheer is one outlet that helped me realize how much I love to teach/coach! I love to see the reactions when my team learns a new skill!

What do you plan to do after graduation?

After graduation I plan to find a teaching job around home in Forest or the surrounding areas. I would love to teach Kindergarten but I will be open to other options. I hope to also continue coaching cheer in the future!
