  • About

I current live in Tupelo, MS with my husband who is also a teacher. We both come from a long line of many great teachers! Some of my favorite things are softball, art, and spending time with my church family!

What does this scholarship award mean to you?

This scholarship means so much to me! Although just 21 years old, I don’t live the live of a typical college student. Being married, I have my own home and husband to care for when I’m done with class for the day. Obtaining a degree has always been important to me, but budgeting for tuition while caring for my family would be stressful without the help of scholarships like this!

Why did you choose to attend the University of Mississippi?

I grew up eating, sleeping, and breathing all things Ole Miss! I was in a cheerleader outfit before I could talk and made my first trip to the Grove before I could walk! The game day atmosphere here is just absolutely unbeatable and the southern hospitality is something I wish everyone could experience at least once! I never even considered college anywhere else!

What inspired you to pursue a degree at the School of Education?

Teaching is viewed by many as a 'lesser' career. Far too often, teaching is just coined as an easy backup plan for those who find the path to a lawyer, engineer, or doctor to be too difficult. However, as the direct product of an A-rated school district with incredible educators, I have a different perspective. My teachers and coaches, growing up, did so much more than just occupy a desk and collect a paycheck— My time in a K-12 classroom taught me that teachers are important! I quickly knew that was the type of impact I wanted to make too!

Tell us about your community involvements and/or hobbies:

My community involvement has always revolved around the kids! I’ve spent many college days as a substitute teacher. I’m also very active in my church where I love to chaperone kids camps with those same kids I see while subbing! I love the game of softball and coaching is the most fun perspective. I’ve had the privilege to coach some local little league softball teams that involve many of the same kids I see at church and at school! To say I’m a familiar face to the school-aged kids in my community is an understatement. I love them dearly!

What do you plan to do after graduation?

I plan to continue working with the school-aged kids of my community as a middle or high school teacher and softball coach. My dream teaching job would be middle school art, but it would be a privilege to work with the students of my community under any role!
