Why did you choose to attend UM?
I chose to attend UM because it is a big part of my family. My parents met here and my grandfather studied here while my mom was a baby.
When and how did you choose your major(s)/minor(s)?
Since a young age, I have loved everything to do with space and the universe, so I kind of chose my major very early. In middle school, I went through several ideas of what I wanted to do, and decided that studying Physics was the best option because I could do anything! In high school, when I took Physics, I realized that I was good at it and very much enjoyed doing it and talking about it.
What would you tell a high school student about your major?
With physics, you can do almost anything. Whether it be in the fields of medical, engineering, or even law. It may be tough at sometimes, but it is definitely worth it. Pursing Physics helps you understand our world much better.
Why is your department a special place?
The Physics department is special because it is very small, which means it is very interpersonal. You get to know everyone pretty quickly and learn that there are so many people there to help you.
Can you tell me about a professor or a class you've taken that has had the most impact on you?
Dr. Jennifer Meyer has been a great mentor to me during my time here. She is my advisor and has encouraged me to do so much more than I thought I was capable of, including applying to be a CLA Ambassador.
What has been one of your most memorable or enjoyable moments at UM?
My most enjoyable moments at UM have been my experiences with The Pride of the South. I have been a member since my freshman year and it has given me so many opportunities to travel to other SEC and even NFL Stadiums. The Pride of the South helped me get accustomed to being here at the University by starting relationships earlier than most students get to.
What do you hope to do after you graduate?
After I graduate, I hope to go on to get my Master's and a PhD in either Physics or Astrophysics. From there, I want to apply to be in NASA's Astronaut program and work for their Astrophysics division.
