Why did you choose to attend UM?
As an in-state student, I had a lot of opportunities to attend events that the university has put on for high school and prospective students, and in doing so, I fell in love with the campus and the people in it. Every single person I talked to was so nice and welcoming and I felt like I belonged.

What would you tell a high school student about your major? What is most important for them to know if they are interested in pursuing that field of study?
I didn't realize that Public Policy Leadership was a major offered here until my junior year, and I instantly fell in love with it. If you're interested in anything to do with our government or politics, PPL is a great place to get a solid foundation for jobs in those fields. It is a very versatile major as well. I have met many of my classmates with wildly different plans for after college, but PPL was a great fit for all of them, so don't be afraid to think outside the box when it comes to after-college plans.

Why is your department a special place?
I love both the College of Liberal Arts as a whole as well as the Public Policy Leadership department, because you can meet so many different kinds of people through CLA but also have the closeness of your own major-specific departmentt.

What class or professor has had the most impact on you?
PPL 212, critical thinking and communications in public policy, is one of my favorite classes I have taken so far, it was so eye opening and changed the way I think about a lot of things, especially governmental and political problems. It taught me how to spot and make a good argument and how to back those arguments up.

What do you hope to do after graduation? What are your career goals/plans?
After college, I'm planning on going to law school here. As of right now, I am planning on becoming a lawyer, but after encountering new experiences in college, I have also considered a career in politics or governmental work.

What is one thing you wish you knew as an incoming freshman that you'd tell your past self (about the general college experience)?
Rejection is okay! My freshman year, I tried to join so many things around campus, and I got rejected from several different things at first. I felt so upset at the time, but because of those rejections, I was able to focus more on other organizations and meet some of my best friends.
