Why did you choose to attend UM?
What would you tell a high school student about your major? What is most important for them to know if they are interested in pursuing that field of study?
Why is your department a special place?
The Forensic Chemistry major is not offered at a lot of Universities, so it is quite unique. The program is also accredited by the American Academy of Forensic Science, which ensures that those who are pursuing this degree will have a high-quality education that meets the standards. The degree also requires an internship during your Junior year summer. This can help students get real-world hands-on experience and expand their connections in the field.

What class or professor has had the most impact on you?
The professor who has impacted me the most would be Dr. Fortenberry. He taught physical chemistry, and although I did not know what was going on most of the time in that class, he made it enjoyable enough to show up three times a week. His class is tough and did not make sense most of the time, but he made an effort to know each and every person’s name. If you attended his office hours, he would walk you through what you did not understand as many times as you needed. There were also loads of students always so we would all help each other out.

What do you hope to do after graduation? What are your career goals/plans?
I would love to be a forensic pathologist assistant. After a couple of years of that, I might go to medical school and become a Pathologist.

What is one thing you wish you knew as an incoming freshman that you'd tell your past self (about the general college experience)?
I wish I had taken my first couple of classes more seriously than I did. I slacked off a lot in my Freshman year, and it came back to bite me.
