Why did you choose to attend the University of Mississippi?
I chose to attend UM because the campus feels welcoming. You don’t just feel like another number added to the school’s population; it feels like a community here at UM. There are a lot of interesting classes in the College of Liberal Arts. The professors really care about students and want to help them succeed. There are also plenty of events and activities to get involved in, which makes it easy to meet new people and have a great college experience. If you want a place where you can grow both academically and personally, UM is a great choice.

What would you tell a high school student about your major? What is most important for them to know if they are interested in pursuing that field of study?
If you’re interested in majoring in theatre, I’d tell you we have an amazing program with some of the best professors. You get a close student-to-professor experience, which really helps you learn and grow. The program is very well-rounded. You get to act, sing, direct, design, and learn about film as well. What’s most important is being ready to work hard, practice often, and be open to trying new things. We put on 2 shows per semester, including one musical and one play. Be ready to work hard but also have fun! The program prepares you well to be more professional and ready for a career in theatre.

In the Department of Theatre and Film, Lauren has had the greatest impact on me. She teaches Acting Realism, and I really enjoy her class. She shares personal stories to help explain concepts, which makes it easier for us to understand. She is very patient and works hard to make the class a fun and engaging experience for all students.

What do you hope to do after graduation? What are your career goals/plans?
After graduation, I plan to start my career as an artist. My goal is to be on Broadway as an actress.

What is one thing you wish you knew as an incoming freshman that you’d tell your past self (about the general college experience)?
One thing I wish I knew as an incoming freshman is how important it is to balance work and self-care. College can be really busy and stressful, so making time to relax and connect with friends is just as important as studying. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help or get involved early—it makes the whole experience way better!
