Meet Jazmine
Why did you choose to attend the University of Mississippi?
One of the main reasons I chose the University of Mississippi is because it is close to the people I love the most. While growing up in Batesville, Mississippi, I got to be embraced by the city of Oxford. At the age of 8, I got to see my mother walk across the stage in the beautiful Grove receiving her bachelor's in Elementary Education. I knew I always wanted to be like my mother. 14 years later I got to walk across the same stage (technically mine was in the Pavilion) and receive the same degree.

Tell us about a favorite memory, professor, and/or academic course during your time at the School of Education:
One of my professors that helped me through my senior year was Dr. Renee Cunningham. She helped me realize the importance of feedback, negative and positive. She was always a person that I could come to for anything. Anytime I had a problem or a concern she was one call away and responded under two minutes. I was honored to be a rebel teacher and had the honor to be under her for a whole year. Even now that I am not her student, I can reach out for help. I believe that she has made me a better teacher.

What inspired you to pursue a degree at the School of Education?
I did not realize I had a strong passion to be in a classroom until my sophomore year at South Panola High School. I had the opportunity to do a two-year program called Tiger Care. This program allowed me the experience of a daycare. From that program on I knew that teaching was for me because of the joy I received everyday working with those children.
