Why did you choose PPL as your major and what was the appeal of the Lott program?

When thinking about what major I wanted to pursue, I wanted a major that could contribute to a greater cause that is bigger than me. I wanted to choose a major that could socially better our relationship with our government, and foster an environment that prioritizes other perspectives and circumstances rather than my very own. The Lott Program not only allows me to explore those passions, but exercises my ability to critically think in a world that often acts upon impulses.

What are your career aspirations?

I aspire to become a lawyer working specifically in economic law and real estate. I believe that I can help assert justice and equal opportunity in the field, and fairly serve whatever community I am in.

Is there a professor that has been particularly helpful to you?

All of my professors have been great! It’s really hard for me to point out one particular professor, however, Dr. Liu’s ability to be flexible and find other methods in teaching really allows the whole class to succeed and thrive. I feel as if her teaching style, wants you to learn the subject rather than just spitting out information.

What is a particularly meaningful way you have engaged in a community either on or off campus?

One way I am engaging in my community is advocating for the increase in civic engagement in the state of Mississippi. For example, I am working with another Lott Student who is working with a lobbyist as well as securing funds for us to be able to do research and promote a more representative Mississippi government. Ultimately, we are working together to improve Mississippi’s economic development and end certain stigmas surrounding the great state of Mississippi.
