  • About

My name is Kaitlyn Young, and I am an Elementary Education major at the University of Mississippi, from Horn Lake, MS. I am dedicated to connecting with students, challenging them to reach their full potential, and nurturing their growth.

Tell us about a favorite memory, professor, and/or academic course during your time at the School of Education:

One of my favorite memories was in EDWP 341, where we learned how to use a tower garden. This was an amazing experience that not only showed us how to connect this resource with different content in our classrooms but also taught us how to introduce the importance of healthy eating to our future students. Another favorite memory was creating a short 30-second original song in our "Social Studies in the Elementary Classroom" course using a standard. We used the beat from "Beez in the Trap" to connect with a kindergarten social studies standard on needs and wants.

What inspired you to pursue a degree at the School of Education?

I was inspired to pursue a degree at the School of Education by my passion for teaching, the impact of great educators in my life, and my love for serving the community. Teachers serve their communities every day, and I wanted to take my passion for giving back to the next level by educating children. The School of Education’s focus on preparing future educators and its commitment to excellence made it the perfect place for me to develop my skills and pursue my dream of making a meaningful difference in the classroom.

What do you plan to do after graduation?

I plan to pursue a master's degree in elementary education. My goal is to teach Kindergarten and eventually move into an administration role, with the dream of becoming a superintendent.
