Meet Kangana Patel
What is your major and why did you choose it?
I chose biology as my major because I’ve always enjoyed learning about the scientific aspect of things and because it will help me significantly with my optometry school preparation!
Why did you decide to pursue this health profession?
When I first learned about eyes in elementary school, I remember finding it to be really fascinating. But I wasn't sure this was the career I wanted to pursue until I got the chance to shadow my optometrist. I was drawn to optometry because it provides an immediate way of improving people's lives by improving their vision and general state of eye health. There's a deep sense of fulfillment in being able to assist others in seeing the world more clearly and comfortably.
How has HPAO helped you?
For me, HPAO has been a priceless tool during my academic career. Knowing I can rely on HPAO's experienced team for support or guidance has given me comfort on many occasions. The staff at HPAO has always been there to give me the support I require at that time. My experience has been genuinely improved by their commitment and desire to go above and above.
What is your most memorable experience working with HPAO?
It's wonderful that everyone in the office is so ready to lend a hand. I remember one time I dropped by seeking advice, but my usual advisor wasn't around. Another advisor stepped in and did her best to assist me. I appreciated that gesture of kindness and support.
What are your career goals?
Once I graduate, my plan is to enroll in optometry school to earn my OD. Throughout my clinical training, I aim to explore various specializations to find the area that resonates most with me. Following optometry school, I intend to pursue a residency to further specialize and refine my skills. Ultimately, I envision owning my own clinic where I can deliver top-notch care while staying on top of the latest advancements in the field.
What is your favorite meal in Oxford?
It changes often, but recently I have been loving South Depot!
What are you the happiest doing when you are not studying?
Hanging out with my friends.
Where is your favorite study spot?
The Baxter room in the library or my room.
