Meet Caitlin Knight

What is your major and why did you choose it?

Allied Health Studies allows you to take the prerequisites for most medical programs. Additionally, it leaves room for fun electives and classes that can help you succeed in applying to a health professions program. Allied Health Studies adequately prepares students for applications and admissions to a professional program.

Why did you decide to pursue this health profession?

Physician Assistants are a growing healthcare profession. They are versatile, meaning that they can practice many different specialties and not be confined to just one. This gives each individual the freedom of choice to work in a setting of their choosing. Many PAs have a healthy work-life balance. PAs can work both full or part time, and often have more time for hobbies than other demanding healthcare professionals. PAs are trained using the medical model, which is similar to the training of a MD. Lastly, PAs are committed to working with other healthcare professionals to improve patient care.

How has HPAO helped you?

The HPAO office welcomes all their students with open arms. Many of the advisors develop strong relationships with the students, and become a crucial aspect of their future. The advisors truly know what is best for each and every student's journey to a professional school. The HPAO office offers scholarships, free tutoring, help finding shadowing hours and internships, and mock interviews for professional programs.

What is your most memorable experience working with HPAO?

Currently, I am a student worker for the HPAO office. Everyday, I get to form closer relationships with the team and learn new and exciting things! The HPAO office truly feels like a family.

What are your career goals?

I plan to attend PA school after graduation and become a Physician's Assistant. I hope to expand knowledge of healthcare to individuals that are underrepresented or have trouble affording adequate healthcare.

What is your favorite meal in Oxford?

At least once a week, I am at El Agave!

What are you the happiest doing when you are not studying?

Outside of studying, I enjoy spending time with friends and family. I also enjoy working out, painting, playing video games, traveling, and volunteering at the Jackson Free Clinic.

Where is your favorite study spot?

I quite frequently switch up my study spot. You can find me in the grove, the honors college, or a study room in RC South!
