Why did you choose to attend UM?
I chose to attend the University of Mississippi because it gave me everything I was looking for in a school. I am still a good distance from home, but close enough to head home in case of an emergency. I am in a department that is constantly pushing me to be better and always giving me as many opportunities as I can have, and everyone I have met here has been so welcoming.
What would you tell a high school student about your major? What is most important for them to know if they are interested in pursuing that field of study?
The BFA in Acting for Stage and Screen is helping prepare you for a career in Theatre and Film. This major is very demanding, but it is so worth it in the end. I have already learned more in the past year than I have in my 18 years of life, and everyone here has been so helpful and welcoming. I have been wanting to do this my entire life, and now, since being here, I can never see myself anywhere besides the University of Mississippi doing Theatre and Film.
Why is your department a special place?
Our department is very small and compact which makes us such a small and tight knit group and we really are like a family. The friendships and relationships I have made here will last me a lifetime and I am so lucky to be a part of such a special department.
What class or professor has had the most impact on you?
Sam's Intro to Acting class, my first semester of Freshman year, has had the most impact on me. Just in one semester, I grew into a better and smarter actor and accomplished things I never knew I could be able to achieve. Sam pushes us outside of our comfort zones and helps us to become the best versions of ourselves, which has been so beneficial.
What do you hope to do after graduation? What are your career goals/plans?
I am hoping to move to New York City after I graduate and start a career in Musical Theatre while performing and touring, and hopefully choreographing as well in the future.
What is one thing you wish you knew as an incoming freshman that you'd tell your past self (about the general college experience)?
To be more on top of housing. I got onto the housing waitlist very late and ended up with a dorm at the very last second as well as a random roommate. I would recommend getting on top of housing as quickly as possible and going in with a roommate you know, or meeting someone online and connecting as a roommate instead of getting a random one.
