What does this scholarship award mean to you?
The School of Education has always been dedicated to giving teachers a quality and meaningful education. This scholarship allows for me to dedicate my time to my studies to better my teaching practices and in turn education in Mississippi.
Tell us about a favorite memory, professor, and/or academic course during your time at the School of Education:
One of my recent favorite courses has been EDSE 690, Trends in K-12 Education, with Dr. Rosemary Oliphant Ingham. It allowed seven of us students, some already teaching and some not, to have round table discussions on a wide variety of topics in education. The class gave me great perspective from educators of all backgrounds, grade levels, and subjects, but more importantly, it gave me some great teachers to look up to and a renewed passion for education and why it means so much to me.
What inspired you to pursue a degree at the School of Education?
From the moment I walked into the doors of Guyton Hall, the School of Education took me in with open arms. I finally felt "cool" about wanting to be a teacher. Being around the students, faculty, and staff who were also just as excited about teaching as I was was like a breath of fresh air. In what can sometimes feel like a thankless and challenging profession, the School of Education has continued to put prospective and current teachers first with the endless opportunities it allows.
