Why did you choose to attend the University of Mississippi?
As an out-of-state student, I did not realize just how much Ole Miss had to offer. It is not just the Grove on football weekends but a tight-knit academic community that wants to see each and every student succeed. I saw a glimpse of that love on my own tour, and I feel it every day now as a student.

What would you tell a high school student about your major? What is most important for them to know if they are interested in pursuing that field of study?
In a world of globalization, I believe it is extremely important we understand each other. Communication is foundational to compassion and empathy, which I think the world could use more of at the moment. I study more than language. I study culture, beliefs, conflicts, and teamwork. I study humanity without borders, and that to me is worth a few late nights studying verb tenses.

Why is your department a special place?
What has made the most impact on me is the support I receive. My professors are always available to answer questions, and older students are always happy to help you study.

What professor or class has had the most impact on you?
My Honors 101 class helped me loosen up. The professor, Dr. G, encouraged us to write a lot, which was sometimes stressful, but it helped me stop worrying about perfection.

What do you hope to do after graduation? What are your career goals/plans?
I hope to work in administration for a company abroad.

What is one thing you wish you knew as an incoming freshman that you’d tell your past self (about the general college experience)?
Try everything. There are so many clubs on campus. Take your freshman year to try a new hobby or two! I tried beekeeping and karate.
