What would you tell a high school student about your major? What is most important for them to know if they are interested in pursuing that field of study?
I am a Music Education Major with a Vocal emphasis. Being a music major requires a lot of dedication and time. There are a lot of requirements when it comes to completing the first portion of this degree. The most important thing to do is to plan always, especially if you are taking any general education classes. So, put everything on your calendar, planner, or whatever helps you stay on top of everything.

Why is your department a special place?
The music building is a special place for me because of how friendly everyone is, and when you are lost, faculty, staff, and students help out the best way they can. You can make many friends and get to dabble in different organizations here.

What professor or class has had the most impact on you?
My Music Literature teacher, Dr. Koval, made a huge impact on me. She truly helped me when it came to branching out ideas as we listened to songs—learning to incorporate musical vocabulary when listening to performances in person. She broadened my mindset, and I learned about aspects of music I'd never even touched on.

What do you hope to do after graduation? What are your career goals/plans?
When I graduate from the University of Mississippi, I plan to return to the high school I attended and rebuild the music program there. When I was a part of that program, it truly changed my life. I want to have that same impact on my future students as my choir director had on me.

What is one thing you wish you knew as an incoming freshman that you’d tell your past self (about the general college experience)?
