I chose History as my major the minute I decided to attend UM. It has been a thorough passion of mine ever since I was little, and I am always excited to learn more about it.
What would you tell a high school student about your major?
I would tell high school students that this major is not just for those wanting to teach, as it is a common misconception. The most important thing to note about this major is how diverse the careers it offers can be, and that the department will always make sure you're on the right track during your time at UM.
Why is your department a special place?
The History department is an incredibly special place full of incredibly special people who want to see you grow, learn, and succeed as a student.
What are your 3 favorite things about your major/department at UM?
-
- The transparency
- Post-grad career support
- How enthusiastic everyone is about History.
What do you hope to do after you graduate?
After I graduate, I hope to move to Savannah, Georgia or Atlanta, Georgia (my hometown!), and work for the Historic Preservation Society or the Atlanta History Center.
What is one thing you wish you knew as an incoming freshman that you'd tell your past self?
One thing I'd tell myself would be to absorb as much of this time as you can, and to not be afraid to utilize as many campus resources as possible, because the Writing Center has actually saved my life on more than one occasion.
