Meet Mary Kate

Why did you choose to attend the University of Mississippi?

I went and toured Ole Miss my senior year of high school, but I thought it was too big to attend straight out of high school. However, after attending community college for two years, I was ready to attend a university. I applied to Ole Miss and went to the "admitted student day" to see if I was really interested. The moment I stepped on campus, I knew I was where I needed to be for the next few years.

What inspired you to pursue a degree at the School of Education?

I have always had a heart for the future generations. When I came to "admitted students day," I knew Ole Miss was the campus I was supposed to be at, and when I walked into Guyton, I was reassured of my decision. We went into a room at Guyton and got to hear about the School of Education, experience Teach Live, and ask questions. Everyone there was very helpful and wanted the best for me. They made sure things were explained clearly. When I came for orientation, the faculty stayed until all of our questions were answered.

Tell us about your community involvements and/or hobbies:

During high school and community college, I was involved in my church and community. Since coming to Ole Miss, this has continued. During the past few summers, I have been a camp counselor and a summer associate at a church in Texas for their children's ministry. Both of these jobs gave me more experience with children which will help me when I get into the classroom. When I came to Ole Miss, I started attending Pinelake and got involved in a small group with other college girls to help get plugged into a community.
