Meet Meri Parker Pigott
What is your major and why did you choose it?
I chose to major in art in order to pursue a passion I’ve had my entire life! Dental school prerequisites can be very challenging and overwhelming, and my art courses provide a calming, fun outlet to provide some relief from my science courses! I also love that I’m able to grow and educate two parts of my brain!
Why did you decide to pursue this health profession?
I’ve always wanted to pursue a career in the health field, but wasn’t quite sure which field would suit me best! Through the guidance of my parents, who are both in the health field, I chose to pursue dentistry to not only positively impact my patients’ lives through tending to their smile, but also being able to implement my artistic abilities!
How has HPAO helped you?
Dr. Taylor has helped me tremendously in navigating how to complete my art degree while still being on track to apply to dental school. The knowledge and wisdom he has not only about the Ole Miss education system but college life in general is invaluable to any pre-dental student he meets with!
What is your most memorable experience working with HPAO?
Having the opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and speak to a crowd of prospective students and their parents this past year! I was able to build my public speaking skills while bragging on an organization that has helped me tremendously throughout my time at Olemiss- the HPAO office.
What are your career goals?
Following completing dental school, I hope to join a general dentistry practice with experienced dentists who can mentor me on the ins and outs of hopefully owning and running my own practice one day!
What is your favorite meal in Oxford?
TCBY chocolate, vanilla swirl froyo with reese’s cups on top! (if that counts as a meal lol)
What are you the happiest doing when you are not studying?
Having lunch with my friends at the Delta Gamma house, or watching movies in the studio while I work on my art projects!
