Meet Millie

What does this scholarship award mean to you?

This scholarship means the word "help." In other words, this scholarship is not only helping me, but it is also helping my family further my other siblings in their own education. Furthermore, it provides me with a sense of accomplishment in knowing someone out there sees how hard I have worked to be where I am.

Why did you choose to attend the University of Mississippi?

I chose to attend the University of Mississippi due to it being close to home and because my father is an alumni.

Tell us about a favorite memory, professor, and/or academic course during your time at the School of Education:

Throughout my years at Ole Miss, my favorite professor has been Dr. Shari Holt. She has challenged me mentally and educationally to be a better person and future educator. The world deserves more teachers like her.

What inspired you to pursue a degree at the School of Education?

My dream has always been that of becoming a teacher. My mother, my biggest inspiration in life, is also a fellow teacher. Growing up, I wanted to follow her footsteps.

Tell us about your community involvements and/or hobbies:

I love working and volunteering as much as I possibly can. I help counsel camps, and I am also the TOTS vice president. This ensures that I will be able to help service events for my campus.

What do you plan to do after graduation?

After graduation, I plan to obtain a job teaching at a high school in Mississippi. If that is not possible at the time, I will continue my education by working on my masters.
