    Hello, I am Nazli Staten. I am currently a sophomore (EE2). I am from Meridian, MS. I enjoy growing in my faith, spending as much time as possible with my family and friends, and working out.

Why did you choose to attend Ole Miss?

I chose Ole Miss because of its prestigious pharmacy school, consistently ranked in the top 25 nationally. The campus and town atmosphere also provided a feeling of home, making it an ideal environment for my academic and personal growth.

When and how did you choose your major?

I decided to pursue pharmacy in 10th grade. I knew I wanted to be a doctor but did not want to attend med school. While researching pharmacy, I realized I could become a doctor while also enjoying a really flexible lifestyle. This was a game changer for me because I want to have a family one day.

Why did you choose to do early entry?

When Early Entry was introduced to me, I realized this was the best way for me to pursue a degree in pharmaceutical sciences. The program allows me to have a secure seat in pharmacy school, great advisors, and a group of peers who are all after the same goal.

What did you like about living in Burns Hall?

I liked the community of girls who were all after the same goals. We all worked together to make sure we were all successful.

What is your favorite Early Entry memory?

Pharmacy Formal Freshman Year!

What would you tell a high school student about your major? What is most important for them to know if they’re interested in pursuing that field of study?

If you're interested in pursuing a major in pharmacy, you must understand the importance of science and math fundamentals. Strong critical thinking skills, attention to detail, and communication abilities are also crucial. Additionally, gaining experience through internships or volunteer work in healthcare settings can provide valuable insights into the field. Finally, staying updated on advancements in pharmaceutical research and healthcare regulations is key to success in this rapidly evolving field. Also, everything in life requires hard work!

Why is your school a special place?

I am absolutely in love with Ole Miss. Ole Miss is a special place because of its rich history, vibrant campus life, and strong sense of community. The university offers top-notch academic programs, including a renowned pharmacy school, while also providing numerous opportunities for extracurricular involvement and personal growth. The beautiful campus and welcoming town atmosphere create a unique environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and personally.

What are your 3 favorite things about your major/department at UM?

  1. Supportive Pharmacy Advisors.
  2. A community of friends with the same goals.
  3. Honestly, anything has to do with math or chemistry because I am a nerd, lol.

Can you tell me about a professor or a class you’ve taken that has had the most impact on you?

Definitely Chemistry 1 & 2 with Dr. Tanner! She is an absolutely great teacher and person. She genuinely wants all her students to excel in the classroom and life. She is the reason I enjoyed and did so well in these courses.

What has been one of your most memorable or enjoyable moments at Ole Miss?

Football season is the absolute best time at Ole Miss! The atmosphere is unreal.

What do you hope to do after you graduate? What are your career goals/plans after graduation?

After pharmacy school, I currently want to work in a community pharmacy. My mom is a licensed professional counselor and has heavily influenced my interest in psychology, so I hope to incorporate this field into my pharmacy practice. I will also be pursuing my MBA in pharmacy school, so I plan to operate my own business, something that incorporates my love for fitness.

Apart from school, how do you spend your time in Oxford? What are your hobbies, favorite places to go, etc.?

I am in love with fitness, so every day, you can find me weightlifting in South Rec or doing pilates at Core Fitness. I also have a great group of friends, so we are always finding some way to hang out together.

What is your go-to meal in Oxford?

Chipotle!

What are you binge-watching or reading right now?

I am always binge-watching Game of Thrones.

What are some dream travel destinations?

I have always wanted to travel to Turkey because of my family’s heritage. I am so blessed to be a part of the Turkish culture, and it is something I want to experience firsthand.

What is one thing you wish you knew as an incoming freshman that you’d tell your past self?

School is important, but equally as important is creating great friendships. Without the friends I have, I definitely would not make it through college. Also, make sure that you keep in contact with your family as much as possible.
