What are you most excited—and maybe most nervous—about as you start college?
I'm most excited about meeting new people. College brings together students from so many different backgrounds, and I can't wait to make friends from all over. I'm definitely a little nervous about the classes because I know college is a whole different level compared to high school. It'll be a big adjustment, but I think it's going to be a great experience. Overall, I'm much more excited than nervous.

You first visited campus in 2022. What made it immediately feel like home?
I'd been on a lot of college tours, but Ole Miss stood out right away. When I came to campus, people knew my name and even remembered things about me. I never felt like just another prospective student. Even after only one visit, I felt known, welcomed and genuinely cared about.

Your sister already attends Ole Miss. Did she influence your decision at all?
It definitely helped knowing someone would already be there. My sister actually fell in love with Ole Miss the first time she visited. She likes to joke that she knew she wanted to come here before I did—even though she's the older sister! Seeing how much she loved it gave me confidence that it was the right place for me, too.

You're pursuing electrical engineering, the Honors College, and the Center for Manufacturing Excellence. What excites you most about bringing those opportunities together?
I've always loved both engineering and law, and I've known for a long time that I wanted to become a lawyer. Once I started researching careers, I discovered patent law and realized it combined both of my passions. What really drew me to Ole Miss was seeing how the electrical engineering program, the Honors College, and the Center for Manufacturing Excellence all work together to support that path. Every time I visit those programs, I'm amazed by the opportunities and resources available. It felt like the perfect place to prepare for the career I want.

You've said that education is what you make of it. How do you hope to get involved at Ole Miss outside the classroom?
I want to try as many different things as I can. I'd love to be involved in organizations related to my academic field, but I also want to branch out. My goal is to experience something from every category—academic organizations, social groups, student government and leadership opportunities. I want to graduate knowing I made the most of everything Ole Miss has to offer.

One of the most unique things about your application is helping create the Ruby the Reading Dog program. Can you tell us how that idea came about?
During my freshman year of high school, I trained my dog, Ruby, to become a certified therapy dog. I started taking her to my aunt's classroom, and it was incredible to watch how differently the students interacted with Ruby compared to adults. They were more relaxed, more confident and excited to read. That experience made me wonder how we could expand the idea, so we created the Ruby the Reading Dog program. Now Ruby visits schools and libraries where children can read to her, helping them build confidence and enjoy reading in a fun, supportive environment.

You're planning to combine engineering with law and become a patent attorney. How did you discover that career path?
I've always loved engineering, but I've also always wanted to be a lawyer. As I started looking into careers that combined both interests, I discovered patent law. It immediately clicked because it allows me to work with innovation and technology while also practicing law. Finding that career path made me even more excited about studying engineering and preparing for law school.

When you graduate from Ole Miss, what do you hope your legacy will be?
I hope people remember me as someone who got involved and made a positive impact. I'd love to help grow the engineering program by building new initiatives or even bringing back programs that have become inactive. More than anything, though, I hope people remember me for being kind. If I can leave Ole Miss a little better than I found it while treating people well along the way, I'd consider that a success.

What was it like finding out you'd been selected as a Stamps Scholar?
It was such an emotional moment. As soon as I found out, I immediately started crying. I was overwhelmed with excitement and gratitude. Receiving the Stamps Scholarship is an incredible honor, and it made me feel so thankful for everyone who has supported me along the way.
