About

Pouria is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Nutrition and Hospitality Management and is minoring in Applied Statistics. Dr. Wijayatunga is his main adviser for his dissertation. Pouria also was a graduate research assistant under Dr. Wijayatunga in Fall 2023.

His dissertation research explores the association of normal weight obesity with aging and bone health using secondary data. He is also accepted to the Coordinated Program in our department and will be completing the dietetic internship with the aim of graduating as a PhD, RD.

Pouria earned his Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition Sciences from Tabriz University of Medical Sciences in Iran. He graduated with Master’s in Food and Nutrition Services from the University of Mississippi. Pouria won first place in a podium presentation for his Masters research, a meta-analysis exploring the effect of time-restricted eating on calorie intake. Dr. Wijayatunga was also his masters research adviser. In Fall 2024, he was awarded the All-of-Us mini-grant from the University of Mississippi. Additionally, he received a scholarship from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics 2024 Mary Swartz Rose Memorial Graduate Scholarship.
