Meet Riddhi Patel
What is your major and why did you choose it?
I knew from high school I had an interest in the sciences, leading me to pursue a degree in Biology. I have always been fascinated by the intricate complexities of life and the fascinating world of organisms. I decided to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Biology instead of a Bachelor of Science in Biology to explore my other interests through minors in Chemistry, Psychology, and Public Health.
Why did you decide to pursue this health profession?
From an early age, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in healthcare, making a difference in people's lives. When I started at Ole Miss, it seemed natural to lean towards medicine. However, it wasn't until the summer after my sophomore year that I began contemplating a potential shift in my pre-professional path. With many shadowing experiences across different healthcare professions including medicine, dentistry, and optometry, I gained invaluable insights into each profession. While shadowing, I was the most intrigued and fascinated by dentistry. I witnessed the profound impact a dentist could have on improving individuals' smiles and confidence. As a future dentist, I want to help people achieve their perfect smiles.
How has HPAO helped you?
When I first began my journey at the university, I was uncertain about my life path. However, the support and guidance I received from the advisors at HPAO have been invaluable. They helped me explore various options and provided direction to pursue my passion. My advisor played a crucial role in boosting my confidence and encouraged me to pursue my dream of dentistry. I know that anytime I have questions or need advice I can always trust the advisors at the HPAO to help, guide, and provide support. It is comforting to know that I can turn to the HPAO whenever I am concerned. Their guidance is invaluable as I pursue my journey to dental school.
What is your most memorable experience working with HPAO?
My most memorable experience with HPAO was during Mississippi Day, where I had the chance to chat with many people, including prospective students, their families, fellow ambassadors, and advisors. The atmosphere was fantastic, and I enjoyed the opportunity to share with everyone the opportunities HPAO provides.
What are your career goals?
After I graduate from dental school, I plan to do a general practice residency to become a general dentist. Then, I aspire to work as an associate for a few years before eventually owning a practice.
What is your favorite meal in Oxford?
Nachos from South Depot.
What are you the happiest doing when you are not studying?
Whenever I am not studying, I like to hang out with friends or watch Netflix. Recently, I started playing pickleball during my study breaks.
Where is your favorite study spot?
The 2nd floor of the JD Williams Library.
