Hey! I’m Shannon Henderson. I am the second child out of six siblings, and I am a freshman at the University of Mississippi, which I’m very excited to be receiving an education from.

Meet Shannon

What does this scholarship award mean to you?

Before receiving this scholarship I began to question if I shot too high for the stars, that maybe I chose wrong by choosing a “big university” to attend my first year. I began to lose hope that I could show it was possible for me to achieve more than what was expected. It all changed when I saw I had been chosen for this scholarship. I took this blessing as a sign to never lose hope and as long as I’m doing all that I can, I will be okay.

Why did you choose to attend the University of Mississippi?

I ask myself this question everyday ironically and the only answer I can stand on is that no other school stood out to me as much as the University of Mississippi. Not just because of the wonderful ambassadors and faculty but simply because I had a feeling. I trusted that feeling and I carry it with me as I start this new experience.

What inspired you to pursue a degree at the School of Education?

I knew what I wanted to contribute to life since I was in the second grade. My passion never changed and I knew I needed to find a school whose passion for teaching never changed either so in leaving I could be equipped with everything I needed to do what I always knew I could.
