What does this scholarship award mean to you?

As a non-traditional aged student, I have a child in college that I support and my elderly mother lives with me so this financial award helps me pursue new learning while caring for those I love.

Why did you choose to attend the University of Mississippi?

I do seek out opportunities to expand my world-view beyond what I experience in my home state. So I was excited to learn about the online Master's of Arts program after helping my own child with her college search. In our interactions with the University of Mississippi, I felt a connection to the people here and wanted to learn more with them.

What inspired you to pursue a degree at the School of Education?

My own child, our district's students, and my colleagues all inspire me to continue to learn and grow in order to best support their hopes, dreams, and aspirations for the future.

What do you plan to do after graduation?

Following graduation, my original plan was to seek out a university position that would connect future students to colleges and the resources that would help them be successful. Based on my learning so far, I am now thinking I would love to contribute to the discipline through research and policy development to both understand more deeply and respond to the needs and interests of future students.
