    Somya Gupta is a 3rd-year PhD candidate in the Department of Nutrition and Hospitality Management, working as a Graduate Research Assistant under Dr. Wijayatunga since Fall 2023. With a background in nutrition from Punjab University, India, she specializes in child nutrition, NHANES analysis, and acculturation studies, and is actively involved in community outreach, serving as Chair of the Student Division and Mentorship Program at the Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior.

About

Somya Gupta is a 3rd year PhD candidate at the Department of Nutrition and Hospitality Management and she is working as a Graduate Research Assistant under Dr. Wijayatunga since Fall 2023.

Somya is also minoring is Applied Statistics and her research areas include child nutrition, NHANES analysis and acculturation studies. She obtained her Bachelor's and Master’s in Nutrition from Punjab University, India and is passionate about spreading nutrition knowledge in the community through extension services with prior experience as nutrition counselor in hospitals in India. 

She is the Chair of Student division and Chair for Mentorship program at Society for Nutrition Education and Behavior. She is the awardee for the UM Sustainability grant, catering to a novel way for agricultural production called Aeroponic gardening.
