About Sophia

In addition to being a Business School Ambassador, I’ve been involved in a variety of leadership and service roles on campus. I previously served as the Philanthropy and Community Service Chair for the Associated Student Body and am currently a Head Project Leader for the Big Event, the largest day of community service at Ole Miss. I’m also a Business Law Tutor for Kappa Kappa Gamma, a member of the Special Olympics Club, Management Club, Finance Club, and the Business Success Program, and I run my own tutoring business, Study with Sophia Tutoring Company, where I help students in accounting, business law, and finance.

Why did you choose Ole Miss?

I chose Ole Miss because of the people and the sense of community. When I visited, it stood out how welcoming and supportive everyone was, and I knew I wanted to be in an environment where I could build meaningful relationships and feel connected.

Why did you choose our major?

I chose my major because I’ve always had a business mindset and naturally think about how things operate, grow, and succeed. As I got more involved in leadership roles and even started my own tutoring business, I realized how much I enjoy applying those instincts in a real way, which made me confident in pursuing this field.

Describe your most recent or current internship, what you learned, and your responsibilities.

This past summer, I completed a Social Media and Marketing Internship in Cape Town, South Africa with LeadAbroad. During my time there, I managed content creation for the program’s online platforms, collaborated with local organizations to highlight community engagement projects, and developed social media campaigns that showcased students’ global experiences. Through this internship, I learned how to adapt marketing strategies across cultures, strengthen brand storytelling, and work effectively within an international team setting. The experience not only expanded my digital marketing skills but also deepened my appreciation for cultural diversity and global business perspectives.

Professor Louis McPhail, my Business Law instructor for BUS 250, has had a meaningful impact on my college experience. He was always approachable and genuinely invested in helping students succeed. His class challenged me to think differently and ultimately helped me gain clarity about what I want to pursue in the future.
