Why did you choose to attend UM?

I chose UM because of its connection to my childhood, though I’m not from Mississippi, it has been a second home for me. I grew up coming down here and seeing people wear the UM merch; it felt like one big family. With that, UM, as soon as I stepped on campus here, felt right. It felt like home, and that’s why I decided to come here. Even though I was hundreds of miles away from my parents and friends that UM and Oxford will feel like a home away from home.

What would you tell a high school student about your major? What is most important for them to know if they are interested in pursuing that field of study?

I would tell them that political science appleies ccritical thinking that makes you really be pushed out of your comfort zone mentally, but I wouldn’t regret it for the world. I have not only grown as a student but a person because of it. So if you're interested in government, both domestically and internationally, or just want to understand what’s going on in the world, political science is the major for you.

Why is your department a special place?

It’s special because it helped me see a more in-depth view of my future, from luncheons with people working in fields to the lectures given by our amazing faculty, it’s really a hands-on step to what I can do post-graduation.

What class or professor has had the most impact on you?

I would say my Pol 103 class, Introduction to International Relations. I didn’t really have great knowledge of international politics, but it really helped me understand better. I have gained so much world knowledge on how international governments work together.

What do you hope to do after graduation? What are your career goals/plans?

I want to be president of the United States or a least the speaker of the house.

What is one thing you wish you knew as an incoming freshman that you'd tell your past self (about the general college experience)?

That you shouldn’t take everything too seriously or overthink, just go with the flow, and life will work itself out.
