Why did you choose PPL as your major and what was the appeal of the Lott program?

I chose to pursue a major in PPL because it stood out as the only program available within the great state of Mississippi. Beyond that, my decision was fueled by a deep-seated curiosity about the profound impact of policies on our everyday lives. My aspiration is to leverage my knowledge and background to uplift marginalized communities. The allure of the Lott program, however, extended beyond its unique offerings. It was the intimate class sizes and the familial atmosphere that truly captivated me. From the moment I stepped into its environment, I sensed a genuine sense of kinship—a community bound together by a shared passion for making a difference. What resonated with me most about the Lott program was its ability to foster spirited debates within the classroom, only to seamlessly transition to camaraderie over lunch afterward. If I had to pick my major all over again, it would still be Public Policy Leadership.

What are your career aspirations?

My career aspirations encompass advancing my education by attending law school. My goal is to channel this expertise into advocacy. Following this path, I aspire to contribute my skills and knowledge to a foundation dedicated to educational policy reform, with a focus on elevating the quality and accessibility of public education nationwide.

Is there a professor that has been particularly helpful to you?

Under the guidance of Dr. Jody Holland, my journey towards becoming a policy expert has been immensely enriched. His innovative teaching methodology fostered an environment where learning transcended the traditional lecture format. I am deeply grateful for the thought-provoking discussion questions that honed my writing and research abilities, empowering me to delve deeper into my academic pursuits. The invaluable skills and insights gained extend far beyond the confines of the classroom, ensuring applicability in real-world scenarios.

What is a particularly meaningful way you have engaged in a community either on or off campus?

One impactful experience I've had was through my internship at a local YMCA site, where I had the opportunity to work closely with 4th and 5th graders. My role involved assisting these young individuals with their homework. It was an immense honor and privilege to be entrusted with guiding these bright minds, the future leaders of tomorrow. Serving as an advocate for educational reform, I found profound satisfaction in playing a hands-on role in facilitating their educational journeys and helping them progress to the next step in their academic endeavors.
