  • About

Hi! My name is Victoria Mills and I am a Special Education teacher candidate from Richland, MS. I’m my free time, I enjoy hanging out with my family and pets, shopping, and doing crafts. I am so excited to become a teacher!

What does this scholarship award mean to you?

It has helped me tremendously as a transfer student. Since I transferred from a community college, my high school GPA and ACT score had already been used as an eligibility to get scholarships, so having the Transfer to Teach scholarship has made my time as a student less stressful because it provided me extra funds for my education without having to work, so I could focus solely on school. I am very grateful.

Why did you choose to attend the University of Mississippi?

I grew up in an Ole Miss family, my dad is from Oxford, and my parents met here. I have been coming to games and supporting Ole Miss for as long as I can remember, so it felt right for me to go here as well.

Tell us about a favorite memory, professor, and/or academic course during your time at the School of Education:

My favorite courses have been any and all that involve SpEd. I am so interested in the subject and have learned so much about my future field. My favorite professor so far has been Dr. Sara Platt. She is such a kind and understanding person and genuinely cares about you as a person, not just a student. Her classes were always engaging and fun and she was always so positive, even on the days the students were not.

What inspired you to pursue a degree at the School of Education?

I have a special needs aunt, so I’ve grown up around here and have seen her struggles and successes. When I was of age, I immediately started volunteering at The Little Light House and fell even more in love with their work. I like to believe that working with children with exceptionalities is my calling and what I was born to do.

Tell us about your community involvements and/or hobbies:

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, playing with my pets, shopping, puzzles, and crafts.

What do you plan to do after graduation?

I plan to go straight into teaching and pursue my masters degree online at the same time.
