Clinic Services

Our evaluations and therapy in speech and language are conducted by students under the supervision of licensed and American Speech Language Hearing Association certified speech pathologist. The audiology clinic services are completed by licensed and certified audiologists.

    (OAE testing is an objective test measure that gives information about the outer hair cells of the inner ear)
  • OAE Evaluation
  • Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR)/OAE Evaluation
    (ABR testing is an objective test measure that gives information about hearing sensitivity by measuring the cochlea and acoustic nerve).
  • Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) Evaluation
    (APD is when the brain does not know what to do with the auditory input). This testing includes both audiology and language testing over 5 separate appointments.

Speech/Language Evaluations and Therapy are available for the following disorders:

• Articulation/Phonology
• Expressive and receptive language, developmental and acquired
• Stuttering and other fluency disorders
• Voice
• Aural Rehabilitation (completing therapy for individuals with a hearing loss to get the maximum function of their residual hearing)
• Adult Neurological Rehabilitation
• Augmentative Communication
• Dysphagia (swallowing)
• Dialect Reduction
• Literacy

We take care of children and their families from the initial diagnosis through any treatment in conjunction with the State of Mississippi Early Intervention Program.

Home-based speech/language services are also available.

For children with hearing loss we are able to provide parent education and contact with other parents of hearing impaired children.

The HILL program at The University of Mississippi provides intensive language therapy to young children with moderate to severe language disorders.

Pricing

Grant funding allows us to provide evaluation services free of charge to children from birth to their 3rd birthday.

All individuals who teach or provide services at UMSHC are expected to abide by a Code of Ethics.  The Code of Ethics of ASHA is available online at asha.org.  The Code delineates responsibility to the welfare of our patients, our responsibility to behave as professional, our responsibilities to other professionals, and our responsibilities to the public.

All students, faculty, and staff are expected to abide by this Code of Ethics in their conduct of clinical and academic responsibilities in the UMSHC.  It is assumed that the principles that are practiced in the UMSHC and CSD will continue to guide each student as they enter the profession of speech pathology upon graduation.

UMSHC is committed to maintaining the privacy of its clients. Information pertaining to patients and their families is personal and private. The privacy of clients is also maintained with documents and records of clients.

While documentation is extremely important, the UMSHC must comply with the requirements of the ways in which information may be shared. Patients are to receive a Notice of Privacy Practices that explains their rights to privacy. Students should read and be familiar with the contents of this document and be prepared to answer questions about it.
