Trees are an Integral Part of the University's Identity and Legacy

The trees on the Ole Miss campus are more than just part of the landscape. From the towering oaks lining the walkways to the vibrant maples and flowering species that grace the campus, these trees provide beauty, shade, and a sense of history.

There are well over two thousand tress on the Ole Miss campus. Here are just a few of the trees that that we enjoy year round:

  • American Elm
  • Green Ash
  • Bigleaf Magnolia
  • Boxelder
  • Norther Catalpa
  • Flowering Dogwood

If you've ever been to Ole Miss you know that the Grove, the heart of our campus, is as beautiful as it is because of the trees that offer shade to students in the summertime and change colors in the fall. The Department of Landscape Services is proud to keep our trees healthy and vibrant year after year.

Champion Trees: A Living Legacy of Nature's Strength and Beauty

Champion trees are the largest known trees of their species, recognized for their exceptional size, age, and historical significance. These trees are often measured and recorded based on criteria such as height, trunk circumference, and canopy spread, serving as symbols of ecological and cultural value.
