Stipends

To be competitive in recruiting top students, UM must increase funds available for graduate stipends, which are a deciding factor for many students considering graduate study. Investing in graduate stipends will bring in more even higher quality students, improving UM’s overall research efforts. Better research increases UM’s discoveries and impact on society, and competitiveness for grant money and other funds.

Competitions and Awards Funds

The Graduate School is seeking support for awards for winners of its competitions. Winners of the Three Minute Thesis competition go to a regional and then national competitions, functioning as a playoff of sorts for research projects. These students get to talk about their research and what it means to society.

Travel Funds

A donation of just $1,000 can make a huge difference for graduate students. Smaller gifts to this effort can also be combined with others to create new opportunities. These funds help cover costs for registration, or travel to local, regional, and national conferences where graduate students present their research and grow their networks. These opportunities ignite new ideas and often shape the trajectory of students’ careers and ignite new ideas for these students.
