The Campaign for the Cancer Center and Research Institute

Nearly every Mississippian has either had cancer or had someone they love diagnosed with the disease. In fact, the state has the worst cancer mortality rate in the nation, and treatment options inside the state aren’t enough. UMMC understands change is possible, and they believe the time to address this is now.

UMMC is in the early stages of a fundraising campaign aimed to address these challenges. Mississippians deserve the highest level of cancer care possible and increased clinical trials without having to travel to other states.

A new cancer center will bring together education, research, and treatment in one welcoming space. The results: Better outcomes. More hope. More time. See how you can help transform cancer care in Mississippi here.

UMMC School Of Nursing – Oxford

Students can now complete all four years of their nursing degree in Oxford. Scholarships can help us attract students and address the state’s nursing shortage. The second class of traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing students in Oxford began in summer 2025. There is a great demand for spots in the program, which requires additional faculty and space.

Nursing School Building Campaign

Thousands of graduates from UMMC’s School of Nursing have cared for the people of Mississippi since it was established in Oxford in 1948, later moving to Jackson in 1956. The school offers training that can’t be found elsewhere in the state, all supported by a statewide academic medical center. UMMC is currently raising funds for the new home for the School of Nursing currently under construction.

Support Children’s Health Care

Funds are being sought to complete patient-floor renovations of the Batson Tower at UMMC, which is also home to the Children’s of Mississippi Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, medical-surgical inpatient floors, and psychiatric support floors. The other part of the state’s only children’s hospital, the Kathy and Joe Sanderson Tower, includes a pediatric imaging suite, children's surgery, and outpatient specialty clinics for follow-up care. Support is also needed for a variety of projects aimed to improve care for Mississippi’s children.
