Department of Counselor Education

Welcome to the Department of Counselor Education!

The Counselor Education program at The University of Mississippi is housed in the Department of Leadership and Counselor Education within the School of Education at Guyton Hall.

At the master’s level, we offer CACREP-accredited programs in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and in School Counseling.  The Clinical Mental Health Counseling program is designed to prepare licensed professional counselors who will work in community agency settings.  The School Counseling program is designed to prepare licensed school counselors who will work in K-12 educational settings.

At the specialist level, we offer a fully-online Ed.S. degree program in play therapy.  This program is designed to prepare already licensed counselors to effectively practice play therapy and to earn the Registered Play Therapist (RPT) credential from the Association for Play Therapy.

At the doctoral level, we offer a CACREP-accredited program in Counselor Education and Supervision.  Whereas the principle mission of a master’s program in counseling is to prepare counselors of excellence, the fundamental mission of the Ph.D. program in Counselor Education and Supervision is to develop counselor educators who are prepared to be skillful teachers, expert supervisors, competent researchers, and outstanding professional leaders and professors.

  • Are you a Master's or Doctoral student?

Secure an internship with the Clinic for Outreach and Personal Enrichment (COPE)! COPE counselors are a team of talented graduate students working under the supervision of licensed counselors and faculty. The clinic is an essential component of our training program as it allows students to apply what they have learned in the classroom to clinical experience.
