Research in Electrical & Computer Engineering

Research opportunities shaping your academic journey

A group of students work on an electronics project

"By far, the best thing was getting involved with research. We got to work on a project funded by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory."

Rojina Adhikary and Amrit Kharel

Ph.D. Electrical Engineering, 2018

We focus our research efforts on wireless communications, computer networks, signal processing, antennas and computational electromagnetics

We collaborate with universities, government agencies, U.S. military and companies to undertake our wide-ranging research. Recent research sponsorships include:

  • US Department of Defense
  • US Department of Transportation
  • Gulf Research Program
  • NASA
  • National Science Foundation
  • US Army

Current Research Projects

Browse our current research projects below.

We are a member of Broadband Wireless Access & Applications Center. Working with university and industry partners, it aims to advance wireless technologies and provide cost-effective and practical solutions for next-generation communications system (5G and beyond) through novel broadband technologies.

Professors have worked with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory to develop ways to improve the reliability and reception rate of images or data received from spacecraft. In another project, we’re using advanced statistical models with temperature and pressure sensor data to better identify spacecraft faults and malfunctions.

We are working with the U.S. military to improve the detection of enemy missiles and aircraft. And, we are determining ways to provide critical information to soldiers on the ground using satellite communications.

We are researching ways to better detect and localize oil spills. Hydrophones emit sounds and ultrasound sensors gauge the changes in the sound velocity due to oil contaminating water.
