VA education benefits vary in how they're paid and how much they pay. Make sure to stay up-to-date on which benefit is best for you and your student.

You can check out this page from the VA website. It should help you discern which benefits you or your student may have and which might be right for you.

We've also prepared a chart that may help you to understand the differences.

Students who utilize VA education benefits and who are not residents of Mississippi may be eligible to receive a Non-Resident Scholarship to cover their Non-Resident Tuition. In most cases, this scholarship will be applied the first semester that the student uses their benefit and continue for the next eight semesters, or until their degree is awarded - whichever comes first. For more information, please contact: veterans@olemiss.edu

Students who have exhausted their VA education benefits can apply for a continuation of the Non-Resident Scholarship to retain the in-state tuition rate.  Provided the student has remained continuously enrolled in each Fall and Spring semester since arriving here, the university will consider granting the scholarship for up to eight semesters, or until a bachelor's degree is awarded - whichever comes first.

If you do not have benefits to pass along to your student, we might be able to get your student the in-state tuition rate; however, it is solely at the discretion of the Financial Aid Office and based upon available funding.  For consideration, please contact: veterans@olemiss.edu

Quick FAQ

Here are some brief answers to questions we expect you may have.

Our office is in the George Street House on the Oxford Campus. You are always welcome to come by during business hours and have a chat. Most questions should be answered at orientation, which you are also welcome to attend.

If you prefer, you can call 662-915-2045 or email veterans@olemiss.edu. You should know, however, that due to privacy laws we may be unable to answer specific questions regarding your student if they are not present to give consent. In most cases, it is easier for the student to get the answers they need by visiting our office in person.

Currently, it is only possible to transfer CH33 Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits. This VA web page should explain how to transfer those benefits to your dependent or make changes:

Not at the same time. The student must elect which benefit they would like to use and can only use one benefit type at a time.

As you have a 100% rating, your dependent most likely has access to CH35 Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance. If you've transferred CH33 benefits as well, then the student will have to pick one of the two. You can review the information listed under "VA Education Benefit Comparison" above to find out which benefit makes more sense for you and your student.
