Student Organizations

Getting involved in campus organizations during your undergraduate years is a great way to enhance your learning, make new friends, and establish connections that can help you move forward in your career. Consult the ForUM Registered Student Organizations listing or the GivePULSE Center for Community Engagement page for information about the groups below and others.

Hill Country Roots is a group of tree-loving citizens in Oxford, MS, who plant trees in areas of need in MS. This work is fueled by a desire to preserve Mississippi's forests and native trees, beautify Lafayette County, provide shade and opportunities for hands-on environmental learning and volunteering, and to mitigate climate change.

The Office of Sustainability works to promote environmentally positive decision-making throughout the institution and empower individuals to address sustainability challenges in their everyday lives. Here are some ways you can get involved in their work.

  • Earth Month (formerly Green Week) - Earth Month is a campus-wide and community celebration that aims to promote and encourage sustainability efforts in our area. Earth Month takes place each April.
  • Green Student Intern Program - The Office of Sustainability employs student interns each semester to work on its initiatives as a part of the Green Student Intern Program (GSIP). These internships are highly valuable paid opportunities.
  • Volunteer opportunities - We have regularly occurring volunteer opportunities through the Green Grove and UM Compost programs, but we also occasionally have other opportunities as well. If you are interested in volunteering visit our GivePulse page for up-to-date opportunities.
  • UM Green Fund - Students may propose sustainability projects through the UM Green Fund. If funded, the Office of Sustainability will help facilitate the project, but the student will lead its implementation.
  • Recycling Guide - The Ole Miss Recycling Guide can answer all of your questions about what and how to recycle on campus and in Oxford.
