About Dr. Lewis H. Smith:

Dr. Lewis H. Smith received his B.A. & Ph.D. (UT Knoxville) and came to UM in 1971 where he was Associate Director of The Center for Manpower Studies and Professor of Economics. His research focused on manpower and labor problems, unemployment, underemployment, &worker productivity.  He retired from UM in 2009 as Professor Emeritus of Economics.

About Al Williams:

Al Williams earned his MA in economics in 1990 at UM. He is the Chief Financial Officer at the nation's leading baked bean producer, Bush Brothers & Company, in Knoxville, Tennessee.  He serves as President of the Board of Directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of the Tennessee Valley and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2017. (He published a children’s book, A Friend Indeed, as a fundraiser for BBBS).
