Fostering Excellence Across the University

The Center for Community Engagement at the University of Mississippi is dedicated to fostering excellence in community engagement across all Colleges, units, and departments of the university.

Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award

The Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award was established in 1890 to honor individuals who exhibit virtuous civic leadership, exemplified by selfless service to others and the community. This awar recognizes college students, faculty, and staff who exhibit virtuous civic leadership and have acted as humble servants to others by putting service of others before self-interest. Award criteria emphasize placing service to others and the community before oneself while embodying the qualities of honesty, morality, ethics, integrity, responsibility, determination, courage, and compassion.

UM faculty, staff, and students are eligible to be nominated by someone who believes they have exhibited exemplary service to the community.

Community Partnership Development Fund

The Community Engaged Partnership Development Fund is designed to support the development of partnerships between university faculty, staff, or students collaborating with a community beyond higher education by providing up to $1,000 in support funds. The Community Engaged Partnership Development Fund supports future and existing community engagement project partnerships.

Faculty, staff, and students from the Oxford, regional, and UMMC campuses are eligible for this fund.

Excellence in Community Engagement Award

The University of Mississippi Excellence in Community Engagement Award recognizes outstanding accomplishments in community-engaged research, learning, service, and engaged scholarship with a $5,000 award to further community engagement. This award recognizes and rewards ongoing or recently completed community-engaged projects; therefore, applications should focus on existing accomplishments and not future plans. 

Faculty, staff, and students from the Oxford, regional, and UMMC campuses are eligible for this award.
