Summer Housing

Students enrolled in summer classes are able to stay on campus in our Summer Housing residence halls.

Summer in Oxford: The Perfect Time to Ace Your Classes

If you're planning on taking summer classes at UM, you're in luck. You may have a chance of staying on campus making it that much easier to stay focused and really excel in your courses.

There's a lot of stuff to cover. But don't worry, we'll walk you through the process.

Application Information

Each session requires a separate application process. However, payment of the non-refundable $30 application fee is required only once. All Summer Application fees will be billed directly to the student’s Bursar account. If you are living on campus for more than one summer term, we encourage you to complete all applications at once.

What you need to know before you apply

You will be able to select your room for each term (May Intersession, Summer First Term, and Summer Second Term). If you are attending multiple terms, you should select the same room for all; otherwise, Student Housing may reassign you to the same room. If you are attending Summer Full Term, you should complete both the Summer First Term and Summer Second Term applications and select the same room within each application.

Once you’ve selected a room, you may use the optional room change section in the application to view other spaces available to you and select one of those spaces if you’d like. Once again, if you are attending multiple terms, please remember to room change into the same room for all terms. Room change closes for each term three business days prior to move in. Room changes may be available after move in. Contact your Community Coordinator if interested.

Application Instructions:
  1. Log into the Student Housing Portal.
  2. Select Summer, and then select the term.
  3. Complete all sections, including signing the electronic contract, paying the application fee, and selecting a room (May Intersession, Summer First Term, and Summer Second Term only).

FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

Some of our most common questions are answered here. If you need more help, please feel free to reach out to us.

Summer session early move in requests will be approved on an individual basis depending on space and staff availability. All early move in requests must be submitted via email to housing@olemiss.edu. Students will be notified of request approval or denial via Ole Miss Gmail. All residents who move in early will be charged a daily rate that will be provided within the early move in approval notice. Early move in fees will be charged to the student’s Bursar account. Students who attend orientation on the day prior to the scheduled move in for a summer term and wish to move into student housing early must complete the early move in request process.

Due to limited housing options available during summer, we do not allow you to request a roommate before selecting a room. If you have a preferred roommate in mind, the two of you should select your room simultaneously.

You will need your student ID for move in. Your student ID serves as your building and room key. If you do not have one, go to the student ID center prior to arrival to your building or apartment.

Online Check-in: We are asking all residents to complete online check-in through the Student Housing Portal in order to gain access to their summer housing assignment. Online check-in should be done once the student is on campus. To complete online check-in, please log into the Student Housing Portal and select ‘Check-in/Checkout’ from the red menu bar. From there you will follow the onscreen prompts to check yourself in.

Online Checkout: All students must complete online checkout through the Student Housing Portal, whether they are leaving campus or if they will be checking in for another summer term in Student Housing. Students who are checking in for another summer term must complete the online checkout process prior to checking in for their next summer term and should use the Express Checkout option if they will remain in the same room.

Students must login to the Student Housing Portal and select Checkout from the red menu bar. They will then be directed to choose either Express Checkout or In-person Checkout during the online Checkout process. Students who are leaving campus or are changing rooms can opt for Express Checkout or In-person Checkout. Students staying in the same room should opt for the Express Checkout. Students should not check out at the front desk.

Express Checkout: The student is fully responsible for independently verifying that they are ready to properly check out of their room. The student will complete the checkout process online at their convenience. No Student Housing staff member will be present to physically check the student’s space while the student remains in the room.

In-person Checkout: The student can complete the checkout process in-person with a Student Housing staff member. The student should go to the front desk of their assigned residence hall or apartment and request an in-person checkout. In-person checkouts will be available daily. A Student Housing staff member will be present to physically walk through the room with the students to verify potential damages and cleanliness of the student’s space.

While Student Housing allows you to select your room for summer, we reserve the right to consolidate and modify your selection if and when necessary.

The Department of Student Housing cannot accommodate the storage of belongings between sessions. Students will be required to move completely out at the end of the scheduled session.

Exceptions are made for students who are living on campus for August Intersession and for the 2024-25 academic year. More details will be provided directly to students who qualify for that option.

If you decide not to attend the University of Mississippi or decide not to live in student housing prior to the cancellation deadline, you must complete the cancellation process in the student housing portal.
