Crime Reports
UPD maintains a database of all calls for service. The Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) System is used to record all significant events reported to the police department. These events can be viewed daily on UPD’s website below. In addition to the CAD a media log containing a brief synopsis of all incident reports is maintained in the records division and can be viewed 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. weekdays at the Police Department in Kinard Hall – Wing C.

Campus Security Authority
Under the Clery Act, certain crimes that occur within Clery-defined geographical areas reported to a “Campus Security Authority” must be included in the institution’s crime statistics. A Campus Security Authority includes campus police or security department; any individual or individuals who are responsible for campus security but who do not constitute a campus police or security department; any individual or organization specified in an institution’s statement of campus security policy as an individual or organization to which students and employees should report criminal offenses; and an official of an institution who has significant responsibility for student and campus activities, including, but not limited to, student housing, student discipline, and campus judicial proceedings.
If you are a Campus Security Authority or not sure if you are and you need to report a Clery Act crime, you may call UPD at (662) 915-7234, report via email to upd@olemiss.edu or you may submit a Campus Security Authority Incident Report Form. If there is any doubt as to whether a crime is reportable, you should err on the side of reporting the matter.
Campus Alerts
The University of Mississippi Police Department strives to promote a safe environment in which to live, learn and work. The men and women of UPD aim to provide the highest quality law enforcement services to the Ole Miss Community.
Notifications related to the Clery Act are issued in the following ways:
The REBALERT System is activated in immediate emergency situations including certain criminal incidents, severe weather or an imminent threat to campus. You may receive telephone calls, emails and text (SMS) messages sent simultaneously to the campus community.
If a serious or unique crime occurs on our campus and the possibility of a continuing threat to the campus remains, you will receive a Timely Warning via email. Timely Warnings provide our campus community a timely notification of crimes that will aid in the prevention of similar crimes and enable people to protect themselves and heighten their safety awareness.
While not required by the Clery Act for timely warnings, some incidents that happen off-campus may still warrant campus notification. Crime Alerts may be sent via email for off-campus incidents that could still potentially impact you or the campus community.
Annual Security and Fire Safety Report - 2024
The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (the “Clery Act”) imposes reporting obligations on institutions of higher education with respect to certain crime statistics, arrests, and campus disciplinary actions. Institutions are required to publish annual Campus Security Reports. Three years’ worth of statistics are included in the Campus Security Report for certain types of crimes that were reported to have occurred on campus, in or on off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by the school, and on public property within or immediately adjacent to the campus. The Clery Act and certain amendments to the Higher Education Opportunity Act also require institutions to include in that report a variety of policies and procedures regarding campus safety and security.
This report is available online and on the website of the University of Mississippi Equal Opportunity and Regulatory Compliance Department at eorc.olemiss.edu and the University of Mississippi Police Department at upd.olemiss.edu.
