Visitor Information

The University of Mississippi Museum is located at University Avenue and 5th Street. Visitors can reach the Museum by using the campus entrance on University Avenue.

Museum

The University Museum is open to the public:

 

Tuesday - Friday | 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. 

Saturday | 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

  • The Museum is closed Sunday, Monday, and most University holidays.

Rowan Oak

The University Museum is open to the public:

 

Tuesday - Saturday | 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. 

Sunday | 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.

 

Closes at 5 p.m. in the summer.

  • Rowan Oak is closed every Monday and most University holidays.

Bailey Woods Trail

Bailey Woods Trail and the grounds at Rowan Oak are open from dawn to dusk daily.

Admission

Enjoy free admission to the Museum, Bailey Woods Trail, and the Rowan Oak grounds. Interior access to Rowan Oak requires a small $5 fee per visitor.

Museum

The public is invited to attend all exhibition openings, Brown Bag lecture series, Free Sketch Fridays, and Family Activity Days, all ages are welcome.

Bailey Woods Trail

A bike rack is conveniently located next to the side entrance of the Museum. Restrooms and water fountain are just inside as well.

Tours

Explore available tour options for the Museum, Rowan Oak, and Bailey Woods, including guided and self-guided experiences.

Museum

Visitors should allow an hour to tour the Museum galleries. Guided tours are available upon request and group tours are welcome with advance notice.

Group Tours

Rowan Oak

No tour reservations needed except for groups of 10 or more. Call 662-234-3284 at least 2 weeks in advanced to make arrangements if necessary. Tour group size limit is 80 guests. Only 40 guests are allowed inside the house at a time.

 

Tour materials for Rowan Oak are available in Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Japanese.

Bailey Woods Trail

Allow a half-hour to walk the Bailey’s Woods trail between the Museum and Rowan Oak.

Rental Information

Surrounded by the Museum’s diverse permanent collection, the event space offers an ideal setting for academic and cultural events. The Museum is an exclusive venue, unique to the area, and provides Museum professionals to answer questions, monitor gallery access, and provide security.

Speakers Gallery

The Speakers Gallery serves as the primary rental venue and will feature various temporary exhibits throughout the year.

Lobby

The Lobby is also available to expand your gallery rental or to serve as an intimate event space.

The Museum has rectangular tables, 30-inch round tables, conference chairs, and audiovisual equipment available. Black or white linens can be rented from the Museum, and specialty linens may be rented locally. The Speakers Gallery features a motorized drop-down screen for audiovisual presentations and wireless Internet connection.

Capacity: 50 seated at tables, 75 in a seated meeting-style setup, and 125 standing room only.

Events may be scheduled within Museum operating hours (Tuesday–Saturday, 10 a.m.–4 p.m.). All events outside operating hours (before 10 a.m., after 4 p.m., or on Sundays or Mondays) require prior approval from the events coordinator.

As a museum committed to the conservation and exhibition of its collections, facility rentals are arranged solely on a consultation basis in adherence with strict gallery regulations. The goal is to provide an elegant, upscale space within reasonable budgets and to assure your event is memorable.

Museum Members, University Departments, and organizations receive discounted pricing on facility rentals.

Museum Venue Rental

Located on the corner of 5th and University, between the University of Mississippi campus and the historic Oxford Square, the UM Museum provides an excellent location for an intimate reception, meeting, or meal to celebrate a special occasion.
