Biography
Alex Hidalgo graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Mississippi with her Bachelor of Music with an emphasis in Music Education. As an undergraduate student, she was a member of the University of Mississippi Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Trumpet Ensemble. She also was an active member in the Pride of the South Marching Band, where she marched trumpet for 2 years, as well as served as one of the drum majors in the fall of 2025. Hidalgo held a Student Ambassador position for the College of Liberal Arts Department of Music, where she represented the department at recruitment events, connected with prospective students and their families, and shared her experiences as a music education major. Her academic excellence was recognized with the Most Outstanding Student in Ethnomusicology Award in 2025, and her leadership was honored with the Nancy Frohn Silent Leader Award following the 2024 Pride of the South marching season. In 2024, she was inducted into Pi Kappa Lambda (Eta Nu Chapter), the national music honor society, in recognition of her outstanding musical and academic achievements. Hidalgo has worked with several schools across Mississippi as adjunct staff and band camp staff specializing in high brass, low brass, and drum major, and continues to teach drum major private lessons. Prior to her time at Ole Miss, she earned an Associate of Arts degree from Itawamba Community College in 2023, where she was also awarded the Fine Arts Division Award. Hidalgo completed her student teaching at Lewisburg Middle and High Schools at the end of her undergraduate experience. Alex Hidalgo is a first-year graduate student at the University of Mississippi, where she is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Wind Conducting and is excited to serve as one of the Graduate Assistants for the Ole Miss Bands.
